As we roll into summer, The Floor Covering Education Foundation (FCEF) has its sights set on ramping up awareness initiatives to help recruit new flooring craftsmen and craftswomen. Through attendance at summer events and some new programs to engage local advocates, FCEF is preparing for a big summer.
“When you talk to anyone within the flooring industry, there’s no doubt that flooring craftsmen are an important piece of everyone’s business,” shares Jim Aaron Executive Director of FCEF. “But, when you talk to people outside of our industry…in high schools, technical colleges, and with community leadership, there’s very little awareness of the career opportunity as a flooring craftsman.”
To start tackling this lack of awareness, FCEF has several events and programs ready to launch this summer:
- FCEF is developing a Career Fair tool kit that can be purchased by any local retailer, supplier, or installer that wants to help promote careers in their areas. “We’ve found that practically every community has some sort of job fair or career day,” says Aaron. “We need to start sharing flooring installation as a career option to students and job seekers.” To make it easy for local advocates to attend an event, FCEF’s kit will include booth graphics, handouts, a video loop, and all the information needed to attend an event.
- The FCEF team will be attending the American School Counselor Association’s annual conference this summer. There they will have the opportunity to reach thousands of school counselors. “We believe that a big piece of spreading awareness is engaging those that advise young people on their careers. This event gives us the opportunity to spread awareness within this influential group.”
- For those that don’t have a career event in their area, FCEF will also be rolling out an awareness kit for any donor. This kit will include social graphics, digital ads, flyers, emails, and a guide on how to spread awareness. All materials will be available to download for anyone who supports FCEF.
